Music In Our Schools Month

For more than 30 years, March has been officially designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®), the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. 

 

National Reading Month

In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, March is designated as National Reading Month - a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day. 

Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age. It's a key component of education and professional development. It also has immediate and long-lasting health benefits such as increased cognitive function, memory, vocabulary, empathy and decreased levels of stress. 

 

National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.

 

 

 

Youth Art Month

March is National Youth Art Month with Texas being a leader in YAM celebrations and events since it began. TAEA sponsors a number of programs celebrating art during the month of March such as a Texas YAM flag design contest, an exhibit of over 100 pieces of student artwork at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and the Lower Rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Austin, an Awards Ceremony and Reception of exhibited artworks, an exhibit of artwork in the TASA/TASB Conference Exhibit hall during the fall, various Big Art Day celebrations/events, and much more!

 

Dr. Seuss’s Birthday - March 2, 2021

Get involved! Dr. Seuss’s Birthday is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2 — Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too!

 
 
 
 
 


School Breakfast Week - March 8-12, 2021

National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. This year’s theme, "Score Big with School Breakfast," reminds parents and stakeholders that a healthy school breakfast helps ensure students’ academic success in school so they can “score big” and reach their goals.


 
 

Registered Dietitian Day - March 10, 2021

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day on Wednesday, March 10. As the nation's food and nutrition experts, registered dietitian nutritionists are committed to improving the health of their patients, clients and communities. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day and National Nutrition Month® promote the Academy and RDNs to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information.
