Southmost Elementary FAQs

Facility/Campus
 

• Will the parking lot be extended? When it comes to award ceremonies/events our current parking lot is not sufficient.
  Answer: We will be studying the need for an additional parking lot. Currently the campus has enough parking spaces for the campus capacity it was built for.
   
• Se ampliará el estacionamiento? Cuando se trata de ceremonias/eventos de premios, nuestro estacionamiento actual no es suficiente.
  Respuesta: Estudiaremos la necesidad de un estacionamiento adicional. Actualmente, el campus cuenta con suficientes plazas de aparcamiento para la capacidad del campus para el que fue construido.
   
• Will you be getting rid of portable buildings all together?
  Answer: Portables will remain at Southmost and will be used as storage. Southmost has enough classrooms to house both Garza and Southmost students.
   
• Se desharán de los edificios portátiles por completo?
  Respuesta: Los portátiles permanecerán en Southmost y se utilizarán como almacenamiento. Southmost tiene suficientes aulas para albergar a los estudiantes de Garza y Southmost.

CFO/ Finance

• Is the money you're going to save going to be used for schools or where is it going to go?
  Answer: As part of the savings, the district will have as a result of consolidating the three schools and will be reinvested in the schools to change or modify the primary focus of the school (whether it is a technology, science, medical, etc. school). Any remaining savings or funds will be used to reduce the budget deficit for the 2024-2025 school year.
   
• El dinero que sa va a ahorrar se va a utilizer para las escuelas o a donde se va a ir?
  Respuesta: Parte de los ahorros que el distrito tendra a resultado de consolidar las tres escuelas sera reinvertido en las escuelas para cambiar o modificar el enfoque principal de la escuela (ya sea una escuela de tecnologia, ciencias, medica, etc.). Los ahorros o fondos restantes seran usados para reducir el deficit de presupuesto para el año escolar 2024-2025.

Transportation

• Transportation to parade events and school activities will still take place?
  Answer: Yes, transportation service will remain the same.
   
• Transportacion a los eventos de desfiles y actividades escolares aun se van a llevar acabo?
  Respuesta: Si, el servicio de transportación seguirá siendo el mismo.

• Will the maximized bus routes mean that the routes will start at an earlier time?
  Answer: We will start picking up students around 7:15 a.m. That will give us time to arrive at school for all the students to have breakfast.
   
• Las rutas de autobús maximizadas significarán que las rutas comenzarán en un momento más temprano?
  Respuesta: Comenzaremos a recoger a los estudiantes alrededor de las 7:15 a.m. Eso nos dará tiempo a llegar a la escuela para que todos los estudiantes desayunen.

Police & Security
 

• Will there be a better flow of traffic during pick up and drop off?
  Answer: There will be a BISD Police Officer and a Security Officer assigned to the campus who will be working traffic duty on the school area.
   
• Estara disponible suficiente personal para dirigir el trafico en las horas de entrada y salida?
  Respuesta: La escuela va a tener un Policía y un Guardia de Seguridad que estarán dirigiendo tráfico en la mañana y en la salida de la escuela
   
• Will the cars only be allowed to stay long enough to pick-up/drop-off the student to prevent traffic build-up?
  Answer: Parents will be told and encouraged to pick up their students promptly at dismissal so as not congest traffic by arriving to school early prior to dismissal.

• Se permitirá que los autos permanezcan el tiempo suficiente para recoger / dejar al estudiante para evitar la acumulación de tráfico?
  Respuesta: Los padres serán informados y alentados a recoger a sus estudiantes puntualmente al finalizar las clases para no congestionar el trafico al llegar temprano a la escuela.

• Will we have a BISD Police Officer helping with traffic?
  Answer: With police and security presence in conjunction with assistance from other school employees there will be enough personnel to conduct traffic duty at the elementary.
   
• Tendremos un Policia de BISD ayudando con el trafico?
  Respuesta: Con los policías y oficiales de seguridad junto con de la asistencia de los empleados de las escuelas, si habrá suficientes personas para dirigir el trafico
   
• If it is consolidated, will there be more children, will there be more security?
  Answer: Elementary schools will have a police officer and security officer assigned to the campus.

• Si se consolida, seran mas niños habra mas seguridad?
  Respuesta: Las escuelas primarias tendrán un policía y un oficial de seguridad designados a trabar en cada escuela.

Garza Elementary FAQs

Health Services:

• What is going to happen to the school nurse?
  Answer: Depending on what compensation is approved by the board, Southmost will have a Registered Nurse and both current nurses at Garza and Southmost will be reassigned to another campus.

• ¿Qué va a pasar con la enfermera de la escuela?
  Respuesta: Dependiendo de la compensación que apruebe la junta, Southmost tendrá una enfermera registrada y tanto las enfermeras actuales de Garza como las de Southmost serán reasignadas a otro campus.

Transportation:

• Will my child have transportation if he attends Southmost or Aiken?
  Answer: Yes, any student attending Southmost or Aiken will be eligible for transportation.

• ¿Mi hijo tendrá transporte si asiste a Southmost o Aiken?
  Respuesta: Sí, cualquier estudiante que asista a Southmost o Aiken será elegible para el transporte.

Police and Security:

• How many security or police officers will be added to new consolidation of schools?
  Answer: The number will determine what is required by law.

• ¿Cuántos Agentes de Valores o Policía se sumarán a la nueva consolidación de escuelas?
  Respuesta: El número determinará lo que exige la ley.
   
• What will you do in regards to the high traffic on Southmost Road?
  Answer: There will be a BISD Police Office or Security Officer assigned to the campus who will be working traffic duty on the school area.

• Consolidate the schools but build a new gym?
  Answer: Current mini-gym will be remodeled to include air conditioning and restrooms.

• Will the classes be over crowded?
  Answer: No, classes will not be over crowded.

  Answer: Yes, it will continue to be 22 to 1.

• Why Garza Elementary? Why the Southmost area?
  Answer: It’s an opportunity to increase programs and activities, but also to address the deficit reduction plan.

• What will the savings be if the students go to Southmost Elementary?
  Answer: The savings will be around $650,000.
