STEAM to STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math

STEAM is an educational program that incorporates the arts into the STEM model. The arts encompass visual or performing arts such as dance, design, painting, photography and writing.  Art gives students the sense of wonder which in turn sparks their creativity.

BISD currently has six STEAM elementary campuses: Brite Elementary, Castaneda Elementary, Egly Elementary, Pena Elementary, Pullam Elementary, and Russell Elementary.

Brownsville ISD offers certain courses students can take at the middle school level to further prepare them for Career and Technology Courses at the high school level.

In addition, middle school students may apply to the STEM Program. The STEM program reinforces math and science through mechanical, civil, environmental, biomedical, and aerospace engineering. Students apply concepts through hands on project based learning (PBL) activities.

Defined Learning

Defined Learning offers a strong foundation for further STEM learning in high school and beyond. Students use project based learning (PBL) activities which puts them in the roles of specific STEM careers and asks them to conduct an authentic performance.

"Education is changing. Project based learning is more relevant than ever in our current world of uncertainty."
                     - Defined Learning

Defined Learning is used in our STEAM campuses as well as our STEM math and science courses. See program details below:
