Suicide Prevention Training
AS+K? About Suicide To Save A Life (Basic) provides participants with an overview of the basic epidemiology of suicide and suicidal behavior, including risk and protective factors. In this one hour e-learning based course, participants are trained to recognize warning signs—behaviors and characteristics that might indicate elevated risk for suicidal behavior—and the initial intervention steps to support a person they think might be at risk for suicide.
School Behavior Threat Assessment Training
With the passage of Senate Bill 11, Texas now joins the short list of states in our country to legislatively mandate the implementation of threat assessment teams in its Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools. Threat Assessment provides a proactive, evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who may pose a threat and for providing interventions before a violent incident occurs.
The board of trustees of each school district is now required to establish a threat assessment team to serve at each campus of the district. The Board must also adopt policies and procedures for the teams that are consistent with the model policies and procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC). In addition, each team is required to complete training provided by the TxSSC or a Regional Education Service Center.

Sams Law
Sam's Law (HB 684), introduced by Rep. Travis Clardy, requires all Texas public school personnel whose duties include regular contact with students to be trained in seizure recognition and seizure first aid. People who interact with children with epilepsy on a daily basis need to be trained to care for them if they have a seizure. Sam's Law ensures that Texas public schools are well-equipped with the tools necessary to provide a safe and enriching environment. https://samslaw.org/

Allergy & EPI-Pen Training
As a school nurse, you know that readily accessible epinephrine auto-injectors are integral to the emergency treatment of children with food allergies.4 Epinephrine is the only first-line therapy for anaphylaxis, according to The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases guidelines.5 But not all children at risk for anaphylaxis have received an epinephrine prescription or always carry their auto-injectors with them. Adrenal Insufficiency (Addison's Disease)
Children with adrenal insufficiency must have a health plan in place. School staff need training on the signs and symptoms of adrenal crisis and how to give the injection. Although many schools are happy to accommodate their AI students, some are reluctant to train staff in the injection. If your child is attending a public school in the U.S., his or her needs must be accommodated. https://aiunited.org/
