Our Programs
ELEMENTARY MUSIC
Music programs in grades K-5 promote singing, moving, creating, listening, and playing instruments as students develop an active understanding of elements such as rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and timbre.
BAND
Band students rehearse and perform a variety of music from the wind band repertoire. Students develop technical skills on their instrument as well as study music theory, music history, and rehearsal and performance techniques.
CHOIR
Choir members explore choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance. The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading, music theory, music history, and performance.
DANCE
Dance gives students an awareness and reverence for the physical body and its athletic and expressive capabilities. Students in the dance programs learn techniques and develop artistry in ballet, modern, lyrical, tap, jazz, flamenco, folklorico, and ballroom styles.
ESTUDIANTINA/GUITAR
Students in the estudiantina programs are exposed to the unique musical heritage of the community as they learn techniques for playing guitar, mandolin, and string bass. Guitar students learn solo and ensemble repertoire as they develop instrumental technique.
MARIACHI
Mariachi students learn to play violin, vihuela, guitarrón, and trumpet. They explore music that has been passed down through oral tradition and whose appeal transcends ethnic groups and national borders.
THEATRE ARTS
Theatre Arts encompasses related disciplines and art forms such as pantomime, storytelling, melodrama, puppetry, improvisation, commedia dell’arte, playwriting, directing, and technical theatre.
