Vela Middle School Pictured left to right.  Peyton Ruiz, Nicholas Marroquin, and Ray Tarpey. These three students qualified for the State Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by Exxonmobil and UTSA the weekend of March 30-April 1, in San Antonio, Texas. Peyton Ruiz and Nicholas Marroquin qualified in the category Plant Science and their project was titled "Growing Crazy".  Ray Tarpey qualified in the category, in Energy and Transportation,  "The Fire Within".  Both projects placed in the top three at the local Science Regional Fair held in early March at UTB to qualify for the chance to participate in San Antonio.

Mia Villalpando	We are proud to announce that the Vela chess team placed 5th in the nation at the 2012 Jr High National tournament held in San Diego, California on April 27-30, 2012.
