Lincoln Park School was originally
established as Brownsville Gateway School. In
1970 the school became the Brownsville
Opportunity School. The main campus building was
constructed in 1981, and the latest addition was
completed in 2002. The school currently houses
numerous classrooms that include a print shop,
art room, and cabinet making labs. Lincoln Park School was the home of the Margaret M. Clark Natatorium where students received aquatic instruction. At the time, the school served its first population consisting of special needs students from 1970 and throughout the eighties. The Teen Parent program was introduced in the 1990-1991 school year and joined the special education units already established at the campus. Lincoln Park's enrollment is like a "rollercoaster" ride. Students are enrolling throughout the school year. We also have students withdrawing if they decide to return to their home campus after childbirth. For this reason, the enrollment is rarely stable. Currently, Lincoln Park School does not fall under the Texas Education Agency's accountability standards. However, since the students do take the TAKS tests, the school accepts responsibility in continuing a focus on the instructional component that will result in passing scores. The scores have an impact in the students' home campuses. All teachers attend the district's professional development trainings as do all high schools, thus maintaining a consistency in the implementation of the district's curriculum |
