NURSEIleana
Hinojosa, RN
Health Aide: Judy
Alanis

A
typical day for the school nurse at Hubert R. Hudson involves
interacting with a variety of people on the campus. The
day often begins long before the bell rings. Many times
parents are waiting for the nurse to arrive at school,
so they can discuss fears and concerns. Parents often
consult with the school nurse as to the advisability of
seeking further medical treatment.
All
students who visit the nurse have their temperature
evaluated and a rapid physical assessment. Those with
fever, continued vomiting, or diarrhea, or who feel
very ill are sent home. If warranted, they are given
referral to a physician. Mrs. Ileana Hinojosa, our school
nurse, sees an average of 900-1000 students per month.
Mrs. Hinojosa, is responsible on an ongoing basis for maintaining
a health record for each student for monitoring immunizations.
As immunizations become due, she will send notices to
the parents. During the course of the day, the nurse
will administer a variety of medications to the students
according to the doctor's instructions.
The
nurse is a vital part of the campus in numerous ways.
She serves on several campus committees and makes herself
available to teach on a variety of health-related issues.
The nurse serves as a resource and an advocate for the
health of students, faculty, and community.
