How You Will Grow
The Summer Bridge Program allows you to concentrate on academics, while preparing you to enter college confidently, knowing you can excel at the Department of Engineering at the University of Texas at Brownsville. Summer Bridge will put you ahead of other entering first-year students making the transition from high school to college. It is unique in that it also includes an international peer-to-peer mentoring between students from the Brownsville area and the Matamoros area.
The program begins with your enrollment in college-level courses and the accompanying academic work. You'll also become more familiar with the University. Plus, you'll make new friends while having fun.
When Attend
The program's supportive and structured environment offers somewhat of a "home away from home" for you during the regular summer session II (July 10 – August 10, 2007).
Who Can Attend
The Department of Engineering at the University of Texas at Brownsville invites graduating seniors students interested in Engineering, Math, and/or Science and or juniors students interested in dual enrollment credit earning who would benefit from this high school-to-college transition program to apply to the Summer Bridge Program.
What to Expect
Each student will be enrolled in the following courses:
History of Science and Engineering; which will improve your English skills while having fun learning about discoveries that changed the humanity.
Mathematics for Engineers; that will lead you through the fascinating world of math applied to everyday engineering problems.
Introduction to Engineering; an amusing way to learn what an engineer can do with hands on experience and real engineering projects.
The grades earned attending the Introduction to Engineering course are a part of the official transcript as well as dual-credits and count in one's grade point average.
How to Apply
To be considered for the program students must submit a Summer Bridge application.
