Cromack Elementary Brownsville Independent School District Reading Success Through Consistency, Support & Collaboration
Mary Lou Montemayor Reading First Director
Carmelita Rodriguez Principal
Maricela Franco Local Campus Reading Coach
Full support from our collaborative culture of learners, including leadership, staff, students, and parents, has led to the success of Cromack Elementary in Brownsville ISD. Our school is in a low socioeconomic, predominantly Spanish-speaking community on the Mexican border with a high English language learner population. The implementation of the 3-Tier Model and a focus on systematic instruction, consistency, and research-based practices during the non-interrupted 120 minute reading block have led to gains across grade levels on Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI), Tejas LEE, Aprenda, Stanford, and Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) scores, as well as significant increase in the number of students scoring "Commended Performance."
