Members of the UT Brownsville campus community and others form a human red ribbon Monday in observance of World AIDS Day on the Student Union lawn. “In 2013, more than 2 million people globally became newly infected with HIV, and 1.5 million people died from AIDS-related causes,” according to the National Institutes of Health site ( “The number of new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths has dropped by more than one-third in the past decade largely because of advances in HIV prevention and greater access to antiretroviral therapy. However, far too many adults and children continue to become HIV-infected and die from the effects of the virus.” The UTB event was sponsored by the Student Health Services Department.
