On Saturday, March 28, 2009, the Hanna, Lopez, and Rivera Indoor Percussion Ensembles competed at the 2009 Texas Educational Colorguard Association Percussion State Championships held in San Antonio. Brownsville was well represented this competitive season, as all three groups were promoted to a higher classification during the mid-season. Being promoted to a higher classification is an honor. The promotion identifies that each group had exceeded the competitive level and needed to move to a higher classification.

The Hanna Indoor Percussion Ensemble placed first this year at the TECA state championships remaining undefeated all season. Hanna placed first with a score of 94.65. The Lopez Indoor Percussion Ensemble placed 3rd with a score of 92.50. The Rivera Indoor Percussion Ensemble placed 4th with a score of 91.00.

All of the BISD Indoor Percussion Ensembles from Hanna, Lopez, Rivera, Porter, and Pace high schools, will perform at the Annual BISD Night of Percussion one final time at Rivera High School on April 24, 2009. Entry to the event is free. The public is invited to attend.
