BISD rising juniors and seniors from various BISD early college high schools spent three weeks this past June at the UTRGV Arecibo Remote Command Center (ARCC) participating in a college astronomy course. Pictured are the inaugural class of students taking part in the BISD Scholars Spacecraft Tracking and Astronomical Research into Gigahertz Astrophysical Transient Emission (STARGATE) Academy at UTRGV.  Students built and launched rockets, learned about UTRGV STARGATE and its partnership with SpaceX, studied with UTRGV Physics and Astronomy professors, discovered which NASA research projects they can work with while still in high school, and toured the antenna array for the Low Frequency All Sky Monitor (LOFASM) at Port Mansfield, and the STARGATE facility and SpaceX launch site at Boca Chica Beach.
