Aaliyah Johnson, a 5th grade student at Garza Elementary, was the runner up in a national contest sponsored by beloved children’s author Judy Blume held at the end of last school year.  Judy Blume chose Aaliyah’s essay, “Be a Fourth Grade Somebody,” over thousands of entries.  Aaliyah won complete sets of the Judy Blume Fudge Book Series for herself, her class, and the Garza library.  Pictured, left to right, are Yolanda Wommack, Garza’s fourth grade teacher; Aaliyah Johnson; and Ricardo Torres, Jr., Garza Principal.
